The financial requirement for an Australian student visa has been revised, and it is now the most common reason a well-qualified applicant is refused. What matters is not only the amount but the form: the source of the funds has to be explicable, the account history has to support it, and a sponsor's relationship and income have to be documented properly. Money that appears in an account three weeks before lodgement raises exactly the question you do not want raised.
