Our story
A house school on the northern rim of the valley, where the seniors are responsible for the juniors and the cross-country goes uphill both ways.
Who we are
Built around houses rather than year groups
Langtang Hall opened in 2002 with three houses and a conviction that mixing year groups does more for a child than sorting them. Six houses later, the conviction has not needed revising.
The result is a school where a Grade 6 student has a named Grade 11 student responsible for them from their first week, and where by Grade 11 that responsibility has been passed on rather than received.

The school by decade
Three houses
Opened with 130 day students and the first three houses: Trisuli, Bhote, Melamchi.
Boarding opens
The first forty boarders arrive; house study hours begin the same term.
Six houses
Langtang, Indrawati and Sun Kosi added as the roll passes six hundred.
Tutor groups formalised
Every Grade 11 and 12 student takes responsibility for four juniors.

Headmaster
“Put a seventeen-year-old in charge of something that matters and watch what happens.”
Headmaster since 2015, previously housemaster of Melamchi for nine years. He runs the Saturday hill running group and has never won it.

Oversees the six houses and the tutor-group system. Writes to every boarder’s family once a fortnight, and expects her house captains to do the same.
