Roots and wings, in that order

Langtang Hall sits on the northern rim of the valley, where the road stops being a road. Eight hundred and ninety students, two hundred and forty of them boarding, arranged into six houses named after the rivers of the Langtang.

The house is the unit that matters. It is where a Grade 6 student is looked after by a Grade 11 one, where the Saturday programme is organised, and where — as every leaver will tell you at length — the cup is won or lost.

Why choose us

Why families choose Langtang Hall

Six reasons, every one of them something you can see for yourself on a Saturday.

  • Somebody notices

Every boarder’s family hears from the house captain once a fortnight.

  • Houses that mix the years

Six houses with Grades 1 to 12 together, and a senior mentor for every junior.

  • The Saturday programme

Twenty-three activities, and every student in one of them all year.

The hill

A campus that runs uphill

The cross-country course climbs four hundred metres and is universally resented. The house that wins it has won the cup more often than not, which nobody thinks is a coincidence.

She boarded from Grade 6 and I worried for a year. Her house captain wrote to us every fortnight. I have never had that from anyone else in her life.

Common questions

Admissions FAQs

From what age can a child board?

From Grade 5. Boarders are housed by house rather than by year group, so a new Grade 5 boarder shares a corridor with students up to Grade 12.

How are houses allotted?

By the housemasters, balancing year group, day and boarding, and — where a family has been here before — by keeping siblings and children of alumni in the same house.

Is the Saturday programme compulsory?

Yes, for every student in the school, and for the whole year rather than a term at a time. Choosing well in Baisakh matters.

The basic building blocks

A block of writing is for anything the designed sections do not cover — a notice, a policy, a letter to parents. It takes bold, italics, links and lists, and sits in Langtang Hall School’s own type.

Below it: a picture with a caption, a row of buttons and a line to separate one thing from the next.
